Serving Mount Pleasant & Isabella County
Mount Pleasant is a college town and a county seat, with older homes near downtown, a lot of rental houses and newer neighborhoods around them. Here's how we look after all three.
Wow! What a great experience with Cherry Town Roofing. They recently replaced our roof and were on time, on budget and their attention to detail was incredible. The workers kept us informed as to their progress and kept the work site clean and orderly. When the project was completed they met with us to answer any questions and to be sure we were satisfied with the results. Couldn’t be happier!
Our office is at 104 S Union Street Suite 208 in downtown Traverse City. From there, Mount Pleasant is about 113 miles southeast, usually about two hours by road.
We'll be honest: that's the far edge of where we work, and it means we're not the crew to call for a same-day emergency tarp. What it does mean is that every Mount Pleasant job is planned as a full day. We bring everything the job needs on the first trip, schedule around the forecast, and get the work done in as few visits as possible.
Mount Pleasant is the seat of Isabella County and was incorporated as a city in 1889. The Chippewa River runs through it, and part of the city lies within the Isabella Indian Reservation, home of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation.
Central Michigan University traces its roots to a business college founded here in 1890, and its main campus has shaped the city ever since: during the school year, students nearly double the town's population. Then in 1928, oil was discovered, and for a time Mount Pleasant was known as the "Oil Capital of Michigan".
The city had 21,688 people in the 2020 census and almost 9,000 housing units, and the houses show its history: older homes near downtown, a lot of rentals around the university, and newer neighborhoods on the edges of town. US-127 and M-20 are its main roads.
Older homes come first. Houses near downtown have usually been re-roofed more than once, sometimes with a new layer laid over the old, hiding soft decking underneath. Their attics were rarely vented for modern heating, which is where ice dams start: warm air melts snow from underneath, the water refreezes at the cold eaves, and the ice backs up under the shingles.
Rentals come next. A house with tenants needs a roof and gutters that don't need attention every season, siding that holds up, and a contractor who can work with an owner who isn't on site. Small problems on a rental, like a loose gutter or a lifted shingle, tend to go unreported until they turn into bigger ones.
Weather ties it together. Wind across open country gets under shingle edges and drives rain into siding seams, and Michigan winters add snow load and a freeze-thaw cycle that works water into small gaps.
So we treat the outside of the house as one system: strip to the deck on a replacement, ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, ventilation that keeps the deck cold, and low-upkeep siding and gutters done properly the first time.
Repair and replacement for older homes, rentals and newer houses: stripped to the deck, soft decking replaced, and ice and water shield where winter needs it.
More about roofing →Low upkeep, which matters on a rental. Proper house wrap, flashing and trim behind it keep wind-driven rain out of the wall.
More about vinyl siding →No joints along the run to leak and sized for the roof they drain, so water ends up away from the foundation.
More about seamless gutters →When a house needs more than one thing, we plan the roof, siding, gutters and trim together as one job instead of patching them one at a time.
More about exterior remodeling →Everything we do on the outside of a house:
We come out to Mount Pleasant, walk the outside of the house and get into the attic where we can, because that is where ice dams and soft decking start.
You get the scope, the materials and the price in writing before anything starts. If a repair will do, we tell you.
Our own crew, working to the manufacturer spec, scheduled around the weather rather than ahead of a storm.
We magnet-sweep for nails, haul the debris away and go over the finished job with you before we leave.
We know Mount Pleasant has contractors of its own, and for an emergency they're closer. What we offer for a planned roof, siding or gutter job is a crew trained and certified on what it installs, a written plan before any work starts, and a straight answer about whether something needs replacing or just repairing.
Tell us what your roof, siding or gutters are doing and we'll come out and take a look.
